- In the first round, Hansraj, Ramjas, and Dyal Singh college are top choices of the students
According to the latest figures released by Delhi University (DU), the first cycle of undergraduate admissions for 2023 has resulted in the allocation of seats to a total of 85,853 candidates across various DU colleges.
In a notable shift from earlier trends, Hansraj College has taken the lead in terms of enrollment after the initial seat allocation process, surpassing the previously dominant Kirori Mal College. Despite Kirori Mal College initially attracting the most interest with 1,61,533 student selections, Hansraj College has emerged as the front-runner in terms of actual enrollments.
The inaugural phase of seat allotment has seen an impressive 87 per cent occupancy rate for undergraduate seats. Among the colleges, Hansraj College, Ramjas College, and Dyal Singh College have observed the highest influx of students. When considering the overall count of registrations, Kirori Mal College maintained its lead with 1,58,548 registrations, closely followed by Hindu College with 1,57,162 registrations.
Delving further into the statistics, DU’s data reveals that of the candidates who were allotted seats, a total of 62,008 have successfully completed fee payments and confirmed their admission, with females constituting 53 per cent of this group. Additionally, 12,733 students have chosen to freeze their admissions, while 40,701 candidates have opted to pursue upgrades.
It’s noteworthy that Delhi University offers a total of 71,000 undergraduate seats across its affiliated colleges. This year’s admission trends come as a surprise considering that in the previous year, it took until the conclusion of the second round of admissions to fill 61,500 seats.
