- The British Council has awarded 12 new and 2 top-up grants worth £500k for industry-academia partnerships in India and the UK as part of its Going Global Partnerships (GGP) program. The announcement was made at the India-UK Higher Education Conference
Global Higher Education Programme (GGP) has provided 70 grants worth around £2 million to 155 universities and 13 industry collaborations, impacting over 5000 students. The GGP has enabled the development of courses that meet global standards of education. The programme has also increased the number of enrolments for UK TNE programmes by over 30 per cent since the end of the academic year 2022. The GGP programme has also enhanced education quality, employability and research partnerships. The delegation will convene with government officials, policymakers and senior university leaders in India to promote the internationalization of higher education and transnational education.
The British Council and the Department for Business and Trade have gathered representatives from 31 UK higher education institutions to discuss partnership opportunities in transnational education and internationalisation with Indian universities and government bodies. The delegation deliberated on new policy measures and activities to support internationalisation, quality assurance and collaboration through teaching, as well as the different models of transnational.
India’s Union Minister of State for Education, Dr Subhas Sarkar, has emphasised the importance of internationalisation in the country’s National Education Policy 2020. He highlighted the strengthening relationship between the UK and India in education, which has seen the signing of an MoU for the Mutual Recognition of Qualifications. This agreement aims to facilitate student mobility, exchange knowledge & ideas and enrich education.
The India-UK Higher Education Conference 2023 is set to bring together education leaders from the UK and India to discuss collaboration in education and research. The National Education Policy (NEP) emphasises international cooperation and the UK is ready to explore mutually advantageous partnerships that foster increased faculty and student exchange and elevate research excellence. The delegation aims to strengthen India-UK collaborations in science, research and innovation to jointly address global challenges and identify and nurture prospective higher education partnerships.
