AICTE Permits Working Professionals To Upgrade Academic Credentials

In an effort to help working professionals pursue their higher education, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has now officially permitted them to pursue diploma, BTech/BE degrees from AICTE-affiliated institutes. This initiative is a continuous education programme for in-service persons that will help them in their professional upgradation.

In order to streamline the admission process and on the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, AICTE has come up with proper guidelines for the institutes and decided to extend the last date for admission till 30 October 2023.

AICTE constituted a committee of experts for the assessment and final selection of Institutes, who are keen to offer courses for working professionals for the academic year 2023-24 only in the approved disciplines having NBA accreditation. Based on this assessment, a total of 137 AICTE approved Institutes from Pan India including aspirational districts, North East states, Hilly areas and J&K have been selected to offer 306 courses in the B.E/B.Tech program. In total, 9180 seats are available for diploma holder working professionals who can now pursue B.E/B.Tech degree.

Similarly, 174 AICTE approved Institutes from across the country including aspirational districts, North East states, Hilly areas and J&K are selected to run 360 diploma courses for ITI working professionals. A total of 10800 seats are offered for ITI working professionals to pursue for diploma courses.

The following guidelines apply to institutions that provide courses for working professionals: Institutions may only provide AICTE-approved courses and disciplines (NBA accreditation is required for B.E./B.Tech courses); Institutions may only offer a maximum of three courses. Only four Institutes are permitted to provide courses in each district. A maximum of 30 students may enrol in a course. To run the courses or programmes, a minimum of 10 students must be enrolled in each course.

AICTE instructs all state governments to ensure that all Institutes complete the admission process for regular students and working professionals before the last date 30 October 2023. It is important to note that the last date for admission will remain the same for all States/UTs. Interested candidates who are interested in upgrading their education qualification can take admission before the last date.
