In a move to provide better educational opportunities to the poor children from backward class communities of Gowda, Settibalija and Ediga, the Koundinya Educational Trust has decided to open an academy to provide training for civil services examinations. Andhra Pradesh governor Biswabhusan Harichandan will formally inaugurate Koundinya IAS Academy here on January 9.
The founder and president of Kaundinya Educational Trust and Gowda Jana Sewa Samiti Trust, Dr EV Narayana on Friday said that the governor had also agreed to give away the annual scholarships to the meritorious students.
He said that the Kaundinya Educational Trust has been awarding scholarships to the meritorious poor students from Gowda, Setti Balija, Ediga, Yata, Srisaina communities and underprivileged students from other communities for the past 18 years. “We started granting scholarships with just ten thousand rupees to only three students in 2006. Our journey has been amazing in helping the students pursue their higher education dreams as we have so far distributed nearly Rs 1.5 crore to nearly six thousand students.
Narayana said that they would be granting Rs 18 lakh to about 450 students for the current academic year. “Gowda Jana Seva Samiti has been started with the aim of conducting free training classes to the students appearing for competitive examinations.
There will be no discrimination of caste, religion or region for getting the free training as the programme was focused to cover all the poor students,” said Dr Narayana, former principal of TJPS college.
He said that they wanted to create better job opportunities for unemployed youths by providing required training with experts in the field. He said that the Kaundinya IAS Academy is being started by the organization. He said that they have already started construction of a building with 18,000 sq ft near Venigandla village of Pedakakani mandal where the IAS academy would be set up. He said that several philanthropists have supported the initiative and are waiting for some donations to complete the structure. Noted physician and trustee of Kaundinya Educational Trust, Dr T Seva Kumar was also present.
