In line with the National Education Policy (NEP), Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday asked education officials to work on the formation of the State School Standards Authority (SSSA).
The SSSA will be a regulator for public and private schools and ensure that schools follow certain professional and quality standards.
The CM reviewed the projects and schemes in basic, secondary and higher education on Tuesday and directed officials to develop the State Curriculum Framework (SCF) on the lines of NCF, but by incorporating Indian knowledge, local practices and history.
Chairing the meeting, Yogi discussed the implementation of NEP in the state. He asked officials to organise workshops in all districts to make teachers and the community aware of NEP and work towards capacity building. He directed officials to develop model schools like PM Shri, Atal residential schools and Abhyudhya schools in a time-bound manner. “We have suggested consolidation of schools making them viable and scalable and ensuring ‘one teacher per grade and one classroom per grade’. For this, we need larger school complexes instead of small, non-viable schools,” said director general, school education, Vijay Kiran Anand.
CM: Encourage kids for sports, physical edu
These model schools should be run as per NEP, 2020. Children should be encouraged for activities related to sports and physical education, said the CM.
The CM also asked officials to upgrade composite schools and equip them with infrastructure, information and communication technology (ICT) labs and libraries so that they can be developed as school complexes. Yogi further directed officials to introduce vocational courses for the students through ‘Learning by Doing’ and support them in career counselling.
He also asked officials to create holistic report cards for students, establish a digital library and impart self-defence training and identify special equity projects for girls. Focusing on inclusive education, Yogi said, “All differently abled and out-of-school children should be duly tracked.” He further directed officials to enhance the academic quality in schools, provide high-level training to teachers and implement all NEP curriculum using a blended approach in classrooms.
CM Yogi also asked officials to promote digital learning by extensively using the Diksha App, informing schools about the deployment of smart classes and ICT labs. He asked the team to implement real-time monitoring of enrolment, attendance and achievements through the Samarth App IT system and use the Sharda App for student identification, online attendance, progress tracking and evaluation.
During the review, CM Yogi said, secondary schools under Project Alankar should be transformed within two years. Emphasising on inter-departmental coordination, the CM said secondary schools should focus more on vocational education. Students should be trained under Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana and include skill development courses too, he said.
