Delhi University is set to launch a Phd Program in Fine Arts starting from the next academic year.
As per the recently passed rules, PhD scholars must attain a minimum of 55 per cent marks or nine credits, equivalent to a UGC 7-point scale, in coursework to continue in the program and complete their dissertation/thesis. Each credit involves four hours of teaching, as stated by Delhi University.
During a recent meeting of the Executive Council (EC), the university’s highest decision-making body, several decisions were made.
The EC approved the initiation of a PhD in Fine Arts from the academic year 2023-2024 by the Faculty of Music and Fine Arts.
Additionally, there will be a one-time age relaxation of three years for participating in the Delhi University Students’ Union elections, in response to requests from various student unions. The age limit for undergraduate students has been increased from 22 to 25 years, and for postgraduate students, it has been extended from 25 to 28 years.
Furthermore, a new MBA program in Business Analytics will commence with 76 available seats within the Department of Commerce. The Value Addition Courses (VAC) Committee’s recommendations were also accepted, leading to the introduction of Vedic Mathematics-III, Vedic Mathematics-IV, and National Cadet Corps-III from the academic year 2022-2023.
Various committees are being formed within the Research and Development Cell (RDC) of DU to foster a research-oriented culture. An RDC Advisory Committee, along with five other committees, will be established for this purpose.
The EC also reviewed recommendations from the Academic Council (AC) meeting held on August 11. Syllabi for the fourth, fifth and sixth semesters of different departments and colleges, aligned with the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework-2022 (UGCF-2022), received approval. Self Learning Material (SLM) for students of the School of Open Learning (SOL) under the Department of Distance and Continuing Education was accepted according to UGCF-2022.
The SOL’s SLM will be reviewed by experts based on suggestions from the Academic Council, with updated versions to be presented in the next council meeting.
Additionally, the registration fee for SC/ST and PWBD students in the five-year Integrated Law Programme for the academic session 2023-24 has been reduced from Rs 1,200 to Rs 1,000. Papers based on Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) as per UGCF-2022 were also approved, including subjects like Basics of Food Science and Nutrition, Basic Forensic Science, Basic Laboratory Techniques, Public Health, Hygiene, and Nutrition, among others.
Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh highlighted that students completing these courses will be well-prepared for placements in diverse sectors, including food and drug evaluation centers. They will also have the opportunity to establish their own businesses.
