Lt Governor of Pondicherry Calls on Political Parties to Not Mislead Students on NEET

  • Having a medical background, I comprehend the significance and inevitability of using the NEET examination to choose students for medical education. This approach is a positive stride forward, she says

Puducherry’s Lieutenant Governor, Tamilisai Soundararajan, has emphasised the significance of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for selecting students for medical education. She urged political parties not to mislead students on this matter.

During her visit to the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital, she spoke to the press, expressing her viewpoint as a doctor. She acknowledged the necessity of using the NEET examination to identify students for medical education. She believed that this approach was a positive step and aligned with the right direction. Dr. Soundararajan, being a medical professional, emphasized the importance of NEET.

In response to a question, she drew a parallel between the selection of IAS officers through the Civil Service examination and the selection of students for medical education through NEET. She questioned why objections should arise against using an eligibility test for medical education.

Furthermore, Dr. Soundararajan appealed to those who oppose NEET not to engage in campaigns that might mislead students. She highlighted that students from humble backgrounds have performed well in the entrance test and successfully pursued medical courses.

Addressing the persistent demand for statehood for Puducherry, she mentioned that the resolution passed in the House a few months ago had been forwarded to the Central government. She also criticised the previous Congress administrations for their lack of proactive efforts to attain statehood for the Union Territory.

Reflecting on her role, Dr. Soundararajan shared that her intention was to serve the welfare of the people. She urged those criticising her work to refrain from making baseless allegations.
