Oxford University Press India (OUP), in collaboration with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), has designed a research-based Capacity Building Programme (CBP) – Think–Share–Learn–Practice (TSLP), for teachers in order to facilitate the implementation of the National Curriculum Framework at the Foundational Stage (NCF-FS).
The MoU for this collaboration was signed in July, on the occasion of the 3rd anniversary of NEP, in the presence of Union Minister of Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan. The pilot trainings of CBSE master trainers were conducted between September – October 2023 in Chennai, Guwahati and Delhi.
This training programme is aimed at empowering the foundational teachers of 25,000 schools to build an activity-based learning environment and bridge the gap between the teaching-learning methods in the Bal Vatika 1, 2, 3 and grades one and two (for learners between 3-8 years). The TSLP (Think – Share – Learn – Practice) programme will empower teachers to develop the understanding and core skills of curriculum design and teaching-learning practices to seamlessly enable the transition to a holistic, activity-based and experiential learning environment, rooted in the Indian ethos.
The focus of the CBP will be on facilitating teachers to develop skills to use the locally available resources and include activities in the curriculum design and implementation to effectively make each classroom an activity-based centre with reasonable budgets. The key takeaways will be a comprehensive understanding of the Panchkosha Vikas and Developmental Domains, classroom and resource management, language development, including local music and storytelling with a segment for phonics and reading, numeracy and application, environment and skill building that will help in the overall development of the learners.
Both the NEP 2020 and NCF-FS 2022 focus on the importance of professional development of a teacher which is crucial for sustained improvement in learner achievement. For the last two decades, OUP has been conducting more than 1500 course-specific and pedagogy-based workshops by highly qualified professionals to reach out to more than 0.2 million teachers every year.
